On the 29th of October 1923, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk declared that Turkey would be a republic and renamed it as the ‘Republic of Turkey’.

The Republic Day of Turkey is a public holiday throughout Turkey, commemorating the proclamation of the republic in 1923. It lasts 35 hours, starting on the afternoon of the previous day. October 28, is also an official holiday.

Many people in Turkey celebrate Republic Day by attending performances and participating in traditional processions with flags and musical bands.
