It ain’t easy being green—or at least a green search engine. Forestle.org debuted last year with a simple business model to raise donations for The Nature Conservancy, only to have Google pull its partnership plug just four days later. Now Forestle is back with new forest-saving features, more transparency, and a partnership with Yahoo.
Forestle’s business model is both simple and noble. The site offers a typical search engine box and displays a list of blue links for results.
Forestle claims that every single web search contributes enough to the site’s income to conserve 0.1 square yards of forest land. Based on my most recent visit to the web site,
